Philadelphia Eagles Logo: Origin and Background
Philadelphia Eagles is one of the many popular American Football Teams that plays in the National Football Conference (NFC).This team was formed in 1933 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After the merging of the National Football League and the American Football League (AFL) in 1970, The Philadelphia Eagles became a part of the East Division of the National Football Conference.
In 1970, the Frankford Yellow Jackets that was Philadelphia’s representative in the National Football League at that time went bankrupt. After this event, the need for another representative was pretty obvious and so the National Football League management granted the expansion franchise for the city of Philadelphia granting it to the owners of the team “Yellow Jackets”; Lud Wray and Bert Bell. The franchise was in the amount of $2,500.00 as the fee. Though not with the worst drought in winnings since it was established, the Philadelphia Eagles has had struggles in getting titles. Since it was established in 1933 to 1947 it was difficult for them securing any wins. It was in 1948 up to 1960 that this team was able to somehow curb the lack in victory. Also, it was around this time that they were able to get eight titles in the National Football Conference.
THE LOGO: Philadelphia Eagles
This Philadelphia Eagle logo personifies all the struggles they went through since their humble beginnings. The Blue eagle is the symbol that is marked on the logo. The same bird of prey was used as the symbol for the New Deal Programs in the time of the Great Depression. This symbolic icon signifies fighting through times and tenacity so it was adapted.
The First Philadelphia Eagles logo was creative; it is the blue eagle holding a football however the color-fill is green. Later on, this was modified so the icon for the team is more realistic and truthful that happened in the year 1996. Also, few of the changes to this team’s logo were the color and the icon used to represent the team in general.
Hues of the Philadelphia Eagles
Initially the Philadelphia Eagles Logo was utilizing the colors Kelly Green, White and Silver nothing more. The shade of the green color used was changed to Midnight Green that is a relatively darker shade than the previous one. The darker shade gives a better contrast to the white background and so was ideal for the logo’s emphasis. Since the color was changed the uniform for the team is always matched with pants with the same color (Midnight Green) or white.
The present logo of this team at this time is featuring just the head of the eagle. It is more cartoon than surreal. The cartoon version of the eagle provided an expression to the bird of prey exuding the teams confidence. The logo was drawn with very intricate spiky details to the feathers and these sharp details complement the fierceness shown by this iconic predator.
The icon is highlighted with the use of contrast of dark blue a then black making this symbol pop on a white background. The colors used in the logo are also signifying the team’s perseverance and tenacity over the years.
