New Orleans Saints Logo

The Beginnings of the New Orleans Saints Logo

The New Orleans Saints Logo has also contained the colors black, gold and white. Many may not know this, but the colors were actually going to be something quite different; blue was almost part of the mix. However, since the colors would resemble the San Diego Chargers too closely, John W. Mecom (the owner of the New Orleans Saints) decided to substitute blue with black as it also paid homage to the petroleum industry in which he was involved with financially. For those of you who didn’t know this, the color black is commonly used to represent oil.

Over the years there have been a few minor changes to the New Orleans Saints Logo but it has basically remained the same since the team was founded in the year 1967. The New Orleans Saints Logo is a symbol of the City of New Orleans and of France’s Royal Family. The logo, when looked at directly seems to pop out at you; giving the viewer a sense of the center either caving in with the outside boarders coming at you, or the other way around. It depends on which version of the logo you are looking at.

Many fans love how the brown and white boarder it beautifully; creating a really neat shading effect. It’s almost like a trick on the eyes if you look at it for a few moments.

Adding the New Orleans Saints Logo on Team Jerseys

Between the years of 1986 and 1995, the sleeves on the New Orleans Saints’ jerseys as well as the sides of their pants had a New Orleans Saints Logo with the symbol for the City of New Orleans inside an outline of Louisiana.

This new addition took the place of the striped pattern that had previously been on the uniforms. The stripes were removed because they were too similar to the Washington Redskins, Green Bay Packs and the Cleveland Browns. In 1996, the Logo was changed to just the symbol for the City of New Orleans.

To honor their return to Louisiana in 2006, the New Orleans Saints wore a patch on their uniforms with an outline of the State of Louisiana symbol that resembled the logo they had back in the 1980s.

The New Orleans Saints Logo Lives On

What is so amazing about the New Orleans Saints Logo is the fact that it hasn’t really changed at all over the many years the team has been around. Furthermore, it doesn’t need to. The team is strong enough and the logo still holds enough meaning that there has yet to be a reason for it needing an update.New Orleans Logo, Black Center

Not too many logos can boast what the New Orleans Saints Logo can; that it may just have the ability to live on forever, just the way it is.
